Sandra's Story: From Suicidal Thoughts to Life

Sandra started coming to The Point when she was nine (9) years old.  In January of 2011 at the age of 16, her troubled home life had overtaken her, prompting suicidal thoughts, sleeplessness, psychosomatic illnesses, and poor school performance.

One of the main steps The Point took in helping Sandra was to remove her from her troubled home environment.   Based on a suicidal letter she had written, the police 302’d her and placed Sandra on suicide watch at a behavioral hospital.

With Amy and Dwayne’s advocacy, Sandra’s parent’s guardianship was removed and she has since lived with various families associated with The Point ever since.

Once out of her home, Sandra has had weekly counseling at the Gap Family Center.  We also asked Sandra to focus on her school, so – in addition to drastically raising her school grades -- she joined the Track and Field Team and took part in the school plays.  Physically, she started to get better.  Her suicidal thoughts left.  And she’s running towards the dreams God has for her.

Despite her recuperation, she found herself bullied, physically threatened and verbally abused by her family.  Because of these threats, The Point and those who care for Sandra have decided it would be good for her to finish her high school career in a different school.

An integral family of The Point who live in Mt. Joy have decided to take Sandra into their home for Sandra’s senior year.   In addition to living in Mt. Joy, Sandra also has the opportunity to go to Lancaster Mennonite School, where she will be away from the threats; and where she will be able to receive a Christian education.

Lancaster Mennonite School is going to give Sandra a 50% discount on her tuition.  The rest of it will need to be covered by generous people like you.

If you would like to give to Sandra’s tuition fund, please call us at 610.857.3393.
